Speaker: Cathi Propper, PhD

Description: Dr. Propper discusses her HHEAR Pilot & Feasibility Study “Testing Mothers’ Silicone Wristbands at 6- and 18- months Postpartum for Household Chemicals Associated with Child Neurologic, Cognitive, and Socioemotional Functioning.” This study aimed to 1) identify the levels and variabilities of various household chemicals detected by the silicone wristbands, 2) use this information to inform methods for silicone band collection at the 30-month visit (worn by mothers and toddlers), and 3) test the extent to which household chemical are associated with infant and child cognitive and socioemotional functioning in our cohort, as well as test interactions by contextual factors (e.g., social experience). Dr. Propper presents initial findings from this study, focusing on brominated diphenyl esters (BDEs), organophosphate flame retardants, and phthalates.
