PFAS Concentrations in Human Milk: A Sibling Study

Speaker: Ellen Demerath, PhD

Description: Dr. Demerath discusses her HHEAR Pilot & Feasibility Study “PFAS Concentrations in Human Milk: A Sibling Study.” This P&F study employed a paired sibling design to assess human milk PFAS concentrations from 25 exclusively breast-feeding women from the MILK Study who had stored milk samples obtained at 1- and 3-months post-partum for each of their consecutively born infants. Dr. Demerath discusses the results of this analysis including evidence of reduced infant weight and fat mass and increased length with postnatal dietary PFAS exposure, and 60% higher EDIs in earlier born infants.
